Want drums, but I have a problem.?
My parents want to get me digital/electronic drums, some little pad thing, no pedal at all. They worry about the noise, going on what they've heard. My friend HAS drums, and he's had them for years. He never had any problems with neighbors. My parents probably worry about me not knowing how to play them, but I play my friend's drums all the time, and he says I'm decent.
I'm dead set against electronic drums, my parents are dead set against acoustic drums. (This is for my Christmas, btw)

take your parent’s over to your friend’s house and let them hear you play the acoustic drums. They might get a better understanding of them if they see you playing them. Also agree to a time limits of when and where you can play the drums i.e. your room, garage, basement and no playing after a certain time each night. Plus aren’t acoustic drums cheaper than the electronic? or are they the same price. If need, take them to a music store and point out the sound difference between the two with a knowledgeable sales rep.
I have the QM drum set and my aunt kept complaining that the drums were too loud so I went to Drum Lab (local music store in lake forest California) with my friend, and I bought the silencers and went home, slapped them on the drum set and played Timmy and The Lords of the Underworld and the silencers worked amazing.

NO ELECTRONIC DRUMS! If they have some money, you can get foam studio pads for the walls that take a lot of the sound in. They are pricey though. I have been playing for over 11yrs in a small town, and I only get positive comments. And my mom got used to me playing. Just say you’ll play for like 20 minutes a day, and then to 30, then 45… I try to play like an hour and a half. Just negotiate with them. Figure out times they aren’t around. DO NOT give in to electronic drums though, those are for kids!
Oh and you can buy brush sticks, that are super quiet, but still play well.
